The TomTom Go 940 Live is a highly desirable feature-laden satnav at a highly undesirable price point.

For professional drivers the GO940 will be ideal, as you can easily justify the extra subscription costs. For consumers the cheaper 740 or 540 may be the better option, unless you get the 940 from Handtec and even then you are paying over £300 plus ...

You'll have to spend a lot of time on the road at rush hour to justify TomTom's £8 monthly fee for the Live services (although do you get the first three months' free). The service has had some teething issues, too, including poor coverage in some areas

Salesmen and lorry drivers criss-crossing the country will appreciate the sheer wealth of time-shaving features on board the 940. Weekend drivers, however, might find this hitch-hiker an expensive luxury.

High price and monthly subscription

Probably the best over-the-counter satnav ever, but most drivers will be better off with a more reasonably priced, less feature-packed alternative
